Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi, the improvements from the last game and the new features. Why it is a must buy game!!!
With the older budokai games having similarity to fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter, the creaters have really seperated them selves from that and have made Tenkaichi. The way they have made it has improved the fighting all around. The buttons have changed a lot, like the shoulder buttons control the hight of your character, the triangle button is now a dash in whichever direction you choose to go and the L2 button charges all of your energy up. These new controls are difficult to get the hang of, however, once you get the hang of them the game is a whole lot better than the older version.
The first thing to notice is that the intro movie is awesome. All of the fighting and the music for it is just simply amazing. For those people who don't know 'Tenkaichi' stands for 'Sparking'. The game is also made by a whole new crew called 'Spike' instead of by the older crew named 'Dimps'.
The graphics are a lot better for the new 3D landscapes. The graphics for the characters are not much different, they have been improved a bit but not so much. The real reason for this is that they look almost exactly like the actual cartoon characters on the series. The new wear and tear feature for Tenkaichi has enhanced the gameplay so that it really does look like the real thing. Also as the characters get beaten up they begin to get really tired and cannot stand up as well as they did at the beginning of the battle. They get bruises and their clothes rip and tear as they bleed from the pound-in that they are recieving.
The new 3D battle fields are bigger and better. They are so much bigger, your characters are able to fly wherever they want to, that is until they reach the edge. Yes unfortunately the creaters at Atari still haven't made an arena so big that it is impossible to reach the end and fighting at the edge of the arena can cause technical difficulties with the camera. All fighting games have this kind of problem but the arenas are the biggest so far on Tenkaichi therefore leaving you no reason why this should affect whether you buy it or not. The landscapes are fully destructible, you hit an enemy into a mountain or building and he/she will go through or into the object.
The 'World Tournament' and 'Cell Games' arenas are both a lot bigger, just like in the series. This means that if you get hit a couple of times you will not go out of the arena. (These arenas can be destroyed if you fly into the air and do a kamehameha beam or any other beam on them). Also because of the upgraded flying ability as long as you don't touch the ground outside the arena you will not get a ring out, so just like in the series you can hover over the outside of the arena (the grass) and you wont get told that it is a ring out. But as soon as you touch the ground it will be a ring out.
The flying has been improved so much it is amazing. The shoulder buttons control the hight of you character, makes your character go up and down. You can fly all over the new enlarged arenas and never lose your enemy (because you have a radar in the bottom right corner of your screen). The battles are now mainly based on long distance battles, like when you send ki blasts at each other.
The special moves can now be done from anywhere as you are flying around or fighting your enemies. There are good things about this and bad things, a good thing is the realism of being able to do this whenever you want, but the bad thing is that the game doesn't show the earth as parts of it blow up as on budokai 3.
The new list of characters includes every single character from the series. This is such a lot of them, and there were so many missing from the older budokai's that you are now able to be. Here is a list of all of the characters if you were wandering who you can unlock:
