Stunning graphics, fast paced melee, punishing beam battles - truly a great game, though its not perfect.

User Rating: 9.1 | Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi PS2
I purchased Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi on Oct. 20 and my roommates and I played the game from 12pm to 2am. The graphics themselves are visually amazing. The over the shoulder view in the previews looked like it would work, and it does sort of. The camera is hard to control, but the hard to spot the enemy makes the game more realistic in the sense of battling (though it can be annoying at times).

The free roaming mode while in combat is freakin' awesome. Unfortunately, the flying feature is hard to control at times, but with practice I'm sure users will get the hang of it.

The makers changed the entire fighting system and it took me about 2 hours to become fully adapted to the system. I got the hang of it after about half an hour, but to truly get it down you need at least 2 hours of hardcore action.

The game itself, aside from being the closest to the series of any game I've ever played, has a lot of additional potential. Unfortunately, one of the aspects I was looking forward to was transforming into different transformations...yeah, they removed that feature and replaced it with unlocking sub-forms of a character. I think that was a horrible move on the designer's part. The lock on system is a constant need, which I can understand that yes, you constantly need to know where your opponent is, but when he is right below you and you can't see him - that's just disappointing that it will not lock on.

Anything else, lets see, well the melee attacks have been reduced to one button, but they added directional buttons to compensate for the inability to control the full variety of your melee method - which reminds me a lot of the Dead Or Alive series (the directional keys, not the inability of variety). I like how you can control the direction of your guarding whether high or low and you can still cancel attacks which the guard button and if you time the teleporting correctly you can teleport, but they truly do mean "simultaneously". I didn't really enjoy the new training mode. It wasn't really application training, as it was reading, watching and remembering.

Even though there are ups and downs to the game, I still love the game and I am addicted to it. I am hooked to the fast paced melee battles, the challenging A.I., the stunning visuals and the free roaming!! Yep, it’s still a great game overall - get it, learn it, love it, live it. "Do it NOW!!" - Arnold.
