The 4th DBZ Budokai game(Tenkaichi), with its intense graphics, more characters, new features and even more fun'.
Budokai Tenkaichi is far one of the best dbz games up to date. In my review, i'll be showing the main points of why i find it a kick but game to own..., and some of its small faults...
Graphics: I can't complain here. It seems that they've really kicked all the graphics up a notch, and a huge notch it was. They've made it more 3d and even more realistic. All the ki glows arround the characters are truly more spectacular then ever. Theres nothing to say that was dissapointing about them here...You can even go underwater now, and thats an amazing improvement from the Budokai 3 game. They even have new environnement interaction which i'll speak of below! 10/10.
Gameplay: The game is played through a battle gate, which is basicly you can play about an episode of any saga, in any order which you wish. You simply fight your opponents, and you have a huge variety to choose from. The more battles you win, the more sagas and episodes are available, and there are even secret saga's, and dragon balls to collect. I found it quite easy at firsto beat the story mode, but it seems to get harder and harder, t'ill the point where your in normal mode and you die 20 times against one boss...Of course, its not easy if you put it to difficult mode...In Budokai 3, there was the Dragon Universe mode, which was you fly arround and find your fights. As much as that was fun, now its direct, and saves you time. Theres also the Ultimate Battle mode, which allows you to play with every character in every form, against 100 men. If you win, you win points, if you lose, you lose points and must restart when you lose all your points. It can be saved, and it can take a long time to finish this with every character(I still havent' even begun to finish it!) Its necessary to do this, because you win items which are used in Evolution Z, where you can personalize a character, and fuse items. By Fusing items, you can unlock secret characters, and other cool options. Overall, the gameplay will last a while, and if not, krank the difficulty up a notch'. 8/10
Fighting Modes: The buttons are completly different then from Budokai 3. There are more flying moves, many more combo techniques, and new special attacks. Dragon Rush Mode has been somewhat removed, and there aren't any "in game modes". Everything is instant, you make an attack, you blow the guy up in less then a second. My favorite new thing about the fighting, is how you can fight under water, and the vast lands that you can fight upon. When i said :"environnement Interaction", i ment that if you aim at a building, you can blow it up with an energy blast.. And not just buildinds! This applies to practicly everything such as trees, monuments, rocks, stadiums, etc. And going under water makes it even more crazy. The only thing i don't like from the fighting that has changed, is that you can't teleport as fast as Budokai 3. In Budokai 3, you were able to teleport ver fast behind your opponent,. and he could do that to you; it made it very fast and funner'. Dodging energy beams is "somewhat" harder now, because you have to time it better, and requires a dab more of a timing skill. The fighting buttons have been changed to one single button which does punching and kicking, and theres grabs and shield breakers as well. Youi can also dash now, to avoid beams and such, and dash and fly even faster with some of the new controls. Theres also a "lock" target button, which allows you to lock on your opponent and make your attack much more accurated. And now, you don't have to do this complicated procedure to powerup, simply hold the L2 button! The game has made a great improvement, and has gone far. The only other thing i don't like, is that you can't transform during a battle to super saiyan, or a new form at all. You must pick the form, which has all the moves and then play. Its not a strugle to start a game anymore, and each character/form does have a significant amount of good moves. Its not that big of a deal once you know why they did. Also in 2player mode, its now Splitscreen, and youi must play it to know why. The fighting area is much bigger, and requires that both players have a seperate view for better fighting. Apart from the teleporting dissabilities from last time, and the transformations, i'm very satisfied. 8/10
Sound: Some new songs, and some old ones from Budokai 3. All the sounds are awesome and they do an excellent job with the audio timing. The characters say many new things too, and have many more taunts and stuff. Theres a noise for every single move, i say good job. They could have however added more new songs...9/10
Value: If you are looking for a new fighting game to spice things up, i would recommend this one. Theres over 60 characters to choose from to play with your buds, and many many battles to be won. You can spend days playing this game, as of i. As a different thing from Budokai 3, each character comes with all the moves once you get them, but now you gotta get the character in different forms, which will have even more new characters. I'm still not done the game, and still need some collecting in the Ultimate Battles. Like all fighting games, if you keep winning or keep losing it will get boring, so even out your playing when you do play games like this. I paid well for this game, and i'm proud that i bought it, and has an awesome value for a ps2 game. It has intense everything. If you liked Budokai 3, you'll probly love this one...8/10
As for me, its an awesome game, and i say go check it out. Everything is astounding, simple and in no time will you be kicking everyones but'.8/10
