I would have to say this is an all around great game. It does have its minor flaws but what game doesnt.

User Rating: 9.7 | Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi PS2
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi being the 4th installment in the Budokai series you would expect for this game to be the greatest of them all. In some aspects it is but in others its just not all its cracked up to be.

The 3rd person perspective on the whole fighting style works out great, there is nothing wrong with it. Little or no camera problems. The new developer Spike did a fantastic job on putting the controls of the characters together. It may take a while to get used if your a veteran of the Budokai series, but the overall scheme of things is by far the best I've ever seen.

The hand to hand combat in the game is the only let down. There is only one button. Granted there are many combos that you can execute during the course of a battle but this was not a smart move on the Spikes part. You have no control over when you kick or punch. A new edition to this though is when playing with trunks you have the option of using hm with or without his sword. Yes meaning you can pull it out and slash your oppenent with, something I've wanted ever since the original Budokai.

On the graphics end of the game its beautiful. The beating that your characters will take during the battle is a wonderful edition. Who doesnt love seeing the blood dripping off Gokus face at the end of a battle. The areas are also quite stunning. The ability to blow almost everything on the map up is another thing that makes this game great.

The sound is just brilliant. They have all the original voice actors from the show to make the game which all pulls together for a great feel of the show itself. An added bonus is you can chose to have the characters speak in japanese which is new to the Budokair series also.

My personal favorite new feature in Budokai Tenkaichi is the fact that you dont have to transform into further stages of Sayian during the battle. If you want to play as super sayian 4 goku then you pick super sayian 4 goku at he character selection screen. Which is wonderful for those who love the fusions but hated having to pull them off in the past games to get the character they wanted.

The different modes in the game are a nice touch. The customization in the game is executed very nicely. The story mode is just plain fun to play through. Although some of the battles can get pretty difficult even on the easy setting its still an enjoyable experience. One downside to this game is the tutorial isnt interactive like Budokai 3 which would be very useful considering how different this game is from the past games.

Overall this is a fantastic game and is a great addition to any ones colection, dbz fan or not. This game was so close to being perfect. The only thing Spike could have done better on is the control scheme. Other than that this game is virtually flawless. I would reccomend this game very highly.
