One of the best Dragonball Z games I have ever played.
Having separate characters in the game is another thing I have grown to love. Goku has all his forms as well as the other characters. All super saiyan forms are in this game. Thats right, you can play as characters from Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT.
One aspect I would say I don't really care for is how the cameras will mess up sometimes and have it where they are too close to the action. One incident I come across many times is when I am near a rock structure the camera will show the rock instead of your character. Most likely this will be fixed in the next game.
Compared to the last Dragonball Z games, the graphics have drastically improved. The destructible environments are one of the new things added. Originally the games creators had it so people would believe things are fully destructible but I hate to say that it must have been misunderstood. You can destroy building and rocks and a few other things here and there, the sad thing, however, is that when a energy blast hits the ground, the ground doesn’t crack like it does in the show. Also when your are powering up, the ground doesn’t crumble beneath the character as it would in the anime.
The battle damage to clothing adds a little something new to the game; as you are fighting your opponent and take damage you will slowly start to see your characters clothing tear and their skin starts to get scratched up.
The visual effects in the game also stand out, to me atleast. I would most certainly say that they have the attacks pretty close to being identical to the show. The only thing I would have liked them to keep in this game is the energy beams appearing in outer space when you did your super finisher. I will miss those small cut scenes. I am hoping that they will be added into the next game. This game in my honest opinion with these new add-ons, ranks in the top-of-the-line games.
Although I do not like the Japanese language option, many of the original animation fans will like hearing Goku and the others speaking how they originally did. The soundtrack contains the same music that many of the previous games' fans loved, but for the newer people getting into this game series the music will seem kind of strange. There is a little bit of a rock style to the cartoon style beats, making them stand out that much more when playing the game. I don't mind the music, but I would enjoy hearing something different from time to time, possibly adding in a little rap or something special for the game.
The sound effects and voices are right on, they sound really good. The creators of this game took their time with the sound effects and made sure that they got them perfect for this game. Occasionally you’ll hear a funny sound, or one of the characters will have a specific writing on the TV screen and say something completely different. I guess this is one of the things I have become use to. Occasionally the voices are off from the movement of the mouth, but other then that I can't find anything wrong.
If you've been a fan of the show or the Budokai series for a long period of time, spending $50 is worth the chance to play a game of this caliber. If you just got into the show or played the other games only for a little while, then you might want to rent this first to see if you want it, I recommend buying it. This game is truely worth having in your collection. This is one of the most action packed Dragonball Z games I have ever seen. This game contains fast non-stop action. Can you handle it?
