Good but not good enough, a must read review
I have my own game/movie review web site but I come to this site to read their reviews before I ever purchase my own games and occasionally write my own reviews upon completion. Not to say I don't like their reviews but they tend to leave out a few thing out here and there. So I had to write my own review in this case. The Game itself is ok at best, I am not a very critical person but the controls to this game have been mangled at very best. You must use your R1-L1 R2-L2 Buttons to control blocking and your Ki Attacks, The joysticks must be used in a effort to move yourself and the camera views the left analog in the case in rarely used unless you have time to look around. And last but not least the four buttons on the left must be used to counter when your being bashed around in a "rush" maneuver. AKA when they knock you into an uncontrollable backwards flight when hit. Even when you manage to hit the random button combo to stop the rush then you must rotate the analog sticks rapidly to win when you get into a bash match, AKA when you and your opponent start to automatically punch and hit rapidly until you or your opponent win the bash. You will in most cases find yourself fumbling the controller to keep up. SUCH AS, You fire a Ki Beam and they fire a Ki beam at the same time, They hit (and keep in mind this happens fairly rapidly) and you are forced into a rapid rotating joystick match with the comp. The Area you fight in has been incredibly reduced you will in some cases be forced to retreat during a "Survive till time runs out" match. In which you are force literally to make a dash for your life just to find yourself flying into a wall and coming to a dead stop. "Why not fight them then?" you may ask. The Computer in these matches are really pumped up, The comp attacks almost non stop, They do un-godly damage in this game a basic 7 hit combo can reduce your life points to almost half, 3 combos will kill your character. Not just that once you start getting hit its almost impossible to break their combos unlike the other games. The characters power have been VERY reduced They say 50+ characters have been packed into the game this is more or less a LIE, Goku is a character, SSJ Goku is a character, SSJ2 Goku is a character, SSJ3 Goku is a character, and SSJ4 Goku is a character, So there you got automatically 4 individual Characters all in one. This within itself is not the only case, The same goes for Vageta, Trunks, Goten, etc. All of these and more. Their individual Forms are made one complete character. So all in all you have several of the same character with different powers> Why did they split the character up to forms? Because they gave all the characters 5 skills that character had in that form. So when you go into story mode and play as Goku for the first time fighting raditz Goku has Spirit Bomb already as well as Kamehameha, Solar flare, Kaio Ten, Kaio Ken attack. And every time you EVER play as Goku you will have these abilities. The same with the other characters, They all have 5 abilities and they never grow. Their are no story shots in the entire game. Its all fighting and as far as dialog between characters they all start before the fight with a few very short lines of speech then on the the fight. Speaking of which another thing that really angers me is the fact they got rid of the "Restart match" option if you lost. If you lose (And you will esp. in the survive till time runs out matches) you must go back to the mission select screen, reselect the match (usually just hit X like crazy) and wait for it to reload all over again. It drove me NUTS! Another pissed point is they divide the match into several sub matches Like for instance the survival Matches, If you can manage to kill the computer in a survive till time runs out match then it didn't count as a win in story mode, So you will have to go back and do it all over again so fighting the computer is a No-No not just because they can hand your butt to you on a silver platter but because killing them counts against you, Their are several matches where you have to defeat the computer in a special way most by using your super killer move Ex. Goku’s Spirit bomb (they are marked clearly before they match and in the skill list) the + side you can usually strike the last blow when they are close to death the - side you always got to power up to get to a Max power mode which you must power up its not like the last one where you could hit the opponent so much you get you Ki building you have to power up which is very hard because the computer even on normal is relentless when attacking which gives you little to no time to power up considering even if you manage to knock the opponent down they get up very quickly and are right back on you in the blink of an eye. The rest are just beat the opponent matches where winning by any means counts as a win. Some of those being "Win with all your might" and others being "Win before time runs out" usually when its timed you get 120 seconds, when you have to survive you get 60 seconds which is pure hell when the computer can kill you in a few hits and you got nowhere to run and no where to hide. I hear there are several extras you can get if you manage 7 dragon balls but I never managed to get any of them in 2 days of straight play. Mainly because during mid fight you have to destroy the various destroyable objects wasting Ki you could be using on the computer and then when you see one you have to land and WALK to the dragon ball to obtain it. Which as a stated time and time again before you are constantly under attack so this alone is VERY hard not to mention even if you manage to get it you still have to win the match to carry it away. And if you lose well so sorry and so sad they appear randomly throughout the game so the chances of you going in and retrying the match and finding a dragon ball are pretty unlikely. Well that’s all I think I have to say for now all in all I didn't like it at all the game has a short "Learning curve" but you are constantly all over the controller the controls were very poorly drawn out, the usage of Ki and physical attacks gets nearly insane because of the controls, I personally leaned toward the combo fashion of Ki move simply because it was simple. Not to say I can't do complicated things but when I am hitting the enemy and then I want to used a KI attack I have to use the D pad (4 arrows very left of the controller) + the R1 button and then snap back to rotate the joy sticks to counter their Ki attack it all gets too frustrating. In any case the judgment to ones preferences lies on ones own taste so don't let me deter you I just serve as a informant so try it out but I don't recommend it for a buy just a rent and if you like it buy it bit I do stress renting because if you have played the other budeki games this is another game altogether, Everything is different.
