If you look back at the history of Dragon Ball Z games, you will notice that hardly any of the games had been released in the United States. Well, the Legacy of Goku for the Game Boy Advance had changed that, but with its slow pacing and extremely short story mode, it did little to change the mediocre line up of Dragon Ball Z games. Then a year later, they released Legacy of Goku 2 for the GBA, which was a drastic improvement. The graphics were superb, the gameplay was fast, and at times, difficult, and the story mode was very long, with many sidequests. So, a year later, they released Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury for the GBA, and how does it measure up? Find out in this review. Graphics: If you've played Legacy of Goku 2, then looked at Buu's Fury, you'll quickly realize that not many changes have been made. However, look closely enough, and you'll see a few changes that make this game a bit better. For instance, when you transform, an aura will surround your body, which makes it seem more like the show, and kii attacks are now bigger and better looking. Also, the portraits that you see when dialogue commences are large, and when certain situations occur, like when the Earth is destroyed, you'll see Goku having an angry, and somewhat scared, look on his face. Every character during gameplay is big, and you'll immediately be able to recognize. However, the minor villains, in my opinion, look pretty bland. But this is still a great looking Dragon Ball Z game. Music: Basically, it's what every DBZ fan should some to expect as of now. Lots of recycled music. However, the new music in the game is fantastic, and really makes it seem like the show (I love the music used on the main menu). They did better in this area than they usually do, but there can still be some improvement. Game Play: What would a game be without good game play, and for the most part, Buu's Fury exceeds in that area. There really isn't any changes from Legacy of Goku 2, however. The A button is still used for melee attacks, and the B button is still used for ki attacks. The L button is used to circulate through your ki attacks, and the R button is used to guard (and, when you guard, by holding the B button, you can form an energy shield that blocks any attack). The start button activates the menu, and the select button activates your scouter, which serves as a map, and allow you to receive information on any character you see (except for human civilians). On the start menu, you see your character's stats, your items, your equipment, and your quests. Here's where a major flaw is. The game allows a more RPG feel, but it also makes the game extremely unbalanced. All you have to do it keep leveling your strength, and because of that, even the final bosses are extremely easy. Equipment only makes it more unfair. Still, even with that in mind, this game can be a very fun play. Story: It begins by showing what happened at the end of the Cell Games. Cell is defeated by Gohan, and everything goes back to normal. However, Goku, using a desperate attempt to defeat Cell, is killed, and although the Z Fighters think up a clever attempt of reviving Goku, he decides that he wants to stay in Other World, so the Earth will no longer be in danger. So, throughout the game, you use Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Goten, Trunks, and a few special characters, like Vegetto, Gogeta, Videl, and Hercule, and with these characters you try to defeat the mighty Majin Buu. Conclusion: This game can be a lot of fun. But if you've played Legacy of Goku 2 and expect a new gameplay experience, then look elsewhere. But if you enjoyed Legacy of Goku 2, then there's no reason why this game shouldn't be a part of your collection. Despite an extremely easy story mode, it is still worth playing. Just don't go into this game expecting ground breaking improvements.
