Well I wasn't sure where to rank this game. However I knew that I liked it. However not as much (yet) as the games on my list that have simpler graphics, like Zelda, Mario, Kid Icarus. This is my first Dragon Quest game on the list unless you include Guadia Quest.
This game has blessed outstanding graphics. And if you are into great 3-D graphics from the quality of like a good playstation 1 game then you will like the graphics of Dragonquest IX. Great I say, mainly because it's on a portable system. There are times I am playing this game and I think I am playing metal gear solid by Konami and for the PlayStation. Graphics speaking. Well besides that um.. I don't have a whole lot else to say or talk about. I haven't really played or got into the game yet. And right now as I sit here I am still not sold completely on 3-D graphics or games. Even though I have played Metal Gear solid, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda Wind Waker and Metroid Prime. My verdict on 3-D graphics is still pending. But I like Dragon Quest IX graphcis as well (perhaps better) than all the other before mentioned games. And I like the gameplay really well too. But perhaps not as good as Metal Gear Solid.
Also this game to me proves that Zelda Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 don't completely hold the market for 3-D games for Nintendo. I have played Zelda Ocarina of time and that game is good. But for some reason I like Dragon Quest Sentinels of the Starry Skies better. A weird thing about this game is the music. I could swear that it is a complete clone of the Shining Force music.
What's weird also is that I am actually playing Shining Force Resurrection of the Dark Dragon on my Nintendo DS too. I will gradually play more and more of Dragon Quest IX, sentinels of the starry skies. But for the time being for now I feel good and comfortable ranking it just below Mario brothers.
God is trying to have me set up to play Super Mario bros 3 somewhere at a hospital so I can get my flu shot.
Also, if you are used to playing other Dragon Quest or Dragon Warrior Games. Like the Non-3D ones, where you can literally play the game for hours and hours and hours until you turn into a zombie, Do not do that with Sentinels of Starry Skies. I tried that at first and I nearly passed out in a coma. Something about the 3-D dragon warrior game you should only do it in small playthroughs. Luckily the game will allow you to save anywhere so that is definitely possible and recommended.
I also think that this game could have been better. The reviewer who said that this game is good if not a bit subdued was right. Sometimes when you are roaming around on the overworld you wish for more spontaneity and maybe seeing some Dionysus play rituals being performed by the bizarre creatures. You should like in an area of the screen you see two monsters going at it. Or a mom ripping and tearing her son to shreds and then running around in demented jubiliation as it is holding it's severed bloody head. (Well that's the Dionysus play.) I don't know. Some fun stuff like that would break up the monotony. Also I don't really dig doing the little favors run around and do errands quests. The game has some flaws and could have easily took in some gamer input by someone.
Another book is world mythology by Larousse. Some weird creatures in that. And a few monsters that look like giant monster dogs. Dragon's quest might have that book beat with its monsters. Ram Raiders and Gastropogs. I must have missed those in the earlier dragon Quest games.
