Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

Dragon Quest VIII makes anyone whoever doubted the Dragon Quest/ Warrior series look like a complete fool.

Quite possibly the best cel-shading job ever. Akira Toriama's character designs don't hurt either. It looks like a 3-D anime, and I wouldn't have expected anything less.

One of the best stories of any RPG since Final Fantasy IX. The writer did an excellent job of making a story that gets the player to connect with his characters.

The random battles can be very hard; at points you may need to heal after every battle. The bosses are disproportionately easy in comparison to some of the random battles.

All in all, quite possibly the best traditional RPG of this generation. Dragon Quest VIII is the revival of the series in North America.
