Drakensang is a fascinating RPG with inspiring gameplay, smooth graphics, and good stability.
The game mechanic works well. The Dark Eye TRPG system is as exciting as D&D, with some basic differences that make combat fresh new. For example, single tanking warrior usually gets killed quickly, so most party members have to stand on the front line. We never see Gimli tanking in a horde of orcs while Aragorn and Legolas doing their jobs freely in LotR movies.
Many Features in original The Dark Eye are modified, and I consider them necessary for making a single-player party-based computer RPG.
The graphics are rendered fairly, both technically and esthetically. Screenshots are not outstanding, but this game keeps good frame rate. With my rig (Core 2 Duo E6400, Radeon HD4870) and in-game setting (1600*1200, 4x FSAA, all graphic features enabled), this game runs smoother than The Witcher, TES4: Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Fallout 3.
After playing Drakensang for weeks, I found that the stability is awesome. Almost every game which I often play occasionally crashes, with exception of Freecell and Drakensang.
The camera sometimes acts awkwardly, but it's acceptable. The German-to-English translation is of some minor mistakes, while GameSpot forums and Drakensang English Wiki function well without spoiling.
P.S. This is my first English review, and English is not my mother tongue. Please forgive me for my poor English. :-(
