Driv3r may not have been a huge success, but it sure as hell sold a lot of copies. Driver: Parallel lines features a completely new 18 year old character, T.K (the Kid) and has you running around 1978' New York with a mob. You are The Driver, again. Eventually you get put into jail for 28 years, and come out in 2006. Gameplay: I thought the game was really fun. The gun controls are pretty nice, and the aiming system is way better than in Driver 3. You can drive AND shoot now, so its a lot better. Some missions are directly copied from GTA, but that doesn't bother me, since I am a fan of both series. The cities feel a lot more populated than in Driv3r , and there are more pedestrians on the streets. Cops in this game just piss me the hell off because they're too persistent, and if you don't wanna be caught, you have to drive slowly, and obey the traffic laws. The game doesnt change much from 1978, to 2006. the game still feels the same, but the cars , music, style, and even the way the character walks is different. Its a story about revenge, so when you get out of prison in 2006, you go after all the people who set you up and kill them. The era change was awesome, and it added to the game greatly. that was the game's stronger point. You also have a safe house, and garages, in which you can store cars, and modify them. Its a nice feature, but the money feels kind of wasted because the cars cost a lot to fix up and theyre easy to blow up. everything in this game works pretty good. One bad thing is that they removed the director mode. That sucked. The game was also kind of short.
Graphics: Again, as in every Driver game, the cutscenes are amazing. very detailed, very realistic. i loved every single one. Gameplay graphics are pretty good too, and the physics in the game are very realistic. Everything looks pretty standard. Streets, cars, pedestrians, enemies, are all pretty detailed and look fine. All the explosions and everything else looks very great and realistic, as in Driver 3.
Sound: this game sounds great. i didnt hear any bugs, and it sounded pretty good. The enemies sound cool too. Tk's voice is pretty sweet, and he sounds like a hippy in the 70's and sounds like a tough guy in '06. the music in the 70's was way better, and cruising around with some of those tunes on feels really cool.
All in all, Driver: parallel Lines is a better gane than Driver 3 in almost every aspect.
I am so glad that Atari finally made a good Driver game. Its about time. I didn't think that this game was going to be that good, but I was surprised to see that it is actually pretty good. Although they did copy GTA ... Read Full Review
