- I am sure everyone is aware that the Driver series is continually being compared to the GTA series. And it's apparent that the folks behind Driver see this, because with Driver: Parallel Lines, it's a bad attempt to be a GTA clone.

This game features licensed music, which is a great touch. Although we have seen a lot of the tracks before (you guessed it, GTA:SA). Also, some of the sound effects have been taken from Driv3r (i.e. the horn).

The actual gameplay gets frustrating. The traffic is there, but there is not enough space between the parked cars and actual traffic. You will find yourself trying to engage the police in a nice chase, only to go from 100 mph to 0...after hitting a parked car or badly placed pole or tree.

The story is interesting. You got a guy, T.K., who finds himself running jobs for various criminals, only to get screwed over and lands in the slammer for 28 years. And then he comes back for revenge. Intriguing, but not mind blowing.

There is good times and bad times, but I wanted to give this game a chance because I have been a fan since the original Driver. I even gave Driv3r a chance, and I actually liked it better than this game. Mainly because the environments were engrossing and it felt real. When driving in NY, you don't feel like you are in NY, you just feel like a place with taxis and tall buildings. There are distinguing landmarks, but the NY in the original Driver was more atmospheric.

This game will keep you occupied but you will find yourself driving long distances to beat a mission that you will either get annoyed at, or just want to quickly complete so you can get on with the story.

The thing people will enjoy are the races which you can enter and earn money to modify your car. I found myself busy with this for a while, but it can get old pretty fast.

It's worth a try because of the free roam, but I would recomend you definitely rent before you buy. While this game may be okay, it's falls short of remarkable.
