I am really a Driver series fan and I've played every single Driver game. Among all of them, this is the greatest (it even kicks GTA's ass). Why? It is because the graphics are really good, especially when you wreck your car. The cops are really cool, but I prefer Need for Speed: Most Wanted's cops since they use real police strategies and gadgets like the spike belts. This game also includes a whole bunch of body works (which you put them on the cars), this kicks GTA's ass (but not Need for Speed: Most Wanted). The weapons are OK. It offers loads and loads of cars, which have great looks. However, the cars have really ridiclous stats, for example, the prison transport offers great acceleration, it is really so fast.
Now to the missions. Basically, they offers great fun. They're really creative. However, they copied some of them from GTA, for example, there's a mission where you have to drive a car recklessly to scare the passenger to make him answer your question. This mission is very familiar to a mission in GTA: Liberty City Stories, where you have to scare a protest member who is against Salvatore Leone by driving a limo.
In conclusion, this is really a good game, not really as bad as what people said.
