Great game, but something is different....

So keeper, you've found my review and decided to come forth to read it..

Dungeon Keeper 2 is a direct sequel to the first game which precedes it. Most of the iconic elements from that game are still intact in this one, however, one can't help but not to notice how the tone is different. Gone are the darker themes and crude humor, and instead, while we still have a dark game humour wise and tone, Something feels off, like the game is more self aware and takes it self less seriously than the first game did. I honestly prefer the 1st game more because of this, the creatures felt darker and more realistic, and the gore and ambiance just looked better. Dungeon Keeper 2 is more about refining and replacing content to suit its own visual look, which many Keepers may be disappointed about. But DK2 is not a bad game, just different...

GRAPHICS: DK2 came out a few years after the 1st one, and the biggest change is the move to 3D Graphics for the creatures and everything else. This is a early kind of 3D, the creature models are blocky when viewed up close and the animations don't seem as fluid as their 2d sprite versions from the 1st game. Textures can become blurry and muddy however the lighting is still quite nice for an early 3D game. Dungeon hearts and portals got a graphical makeover and as before i still prefer the visual style of the Dungeon Heart from the 1st game more. This time they literally went with a beating heart and i miss the orante magical glass heart from the first game.

SOUND: Hah! it's great still, they did some good changes here, the narrator is back and he mostly is in the entire game this time around not just in the pre/post mission phase. He guides you and explains stuff to you and he is the games announcer when you're under attack and so forth, this guys voice is still awesome to hear while you are managing your dungeon. I do once again miss the other guy who was the announcer from the 1st game, again it's less dark here, and i always thought the announcer from the 1st game was the Horned Reaper. Music like Disco Inferno plays during the background when one of your minions wins at the casino.

GAMEPLAY: Well not much to say, if you played Dungeon Keeper 1, well you know exactly what to expect in DK2

FINAL VERDICT: Great game, but it doesn't surpass the original by any means. But that doesn't make it bad. The first game could not exist at all for example and this could be the only Dungeon Keeper game we have and i'd still say it's awesome. Both games while sharing the exact same gameplay and mechanics, look very differently, and that's really the whole point. Both DK games have their own visual take on the DK World. And Thus Dungeon Keeper 2 is a great game to play. But you should least play though once you've played the 1st one, which i highly recommend you go through and least beat all the 20 levels first before you move onto playing this one.
