A near perfect RPG for PSP which its potential is limited by the lack of certain elemnts probably due to limited budget.
User Rating: 8 | Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony PSP
Throne of Agony seems to me like one of the best developed RPGs for PSP to date no matter what the gamespot reviewer says about it cause I really think I am a strict reviewer too (You can see my other game reviews!) and I don’t want to go easy about a game just because I am in love with the series. You play as one of the 3 playable characters with pre-defined attributes and you can also choose 1 companion from a series of two known as the Follower in the game. Many may think this is not good but I am kind of player who doesn’t like to spend hours of his time creating a unique character of his own and adjust every tiny aspect of it. All of these 3 characters have unique abilities and playing with each one of them will provide you with a different style of gameplay (Using melee, ranged or magic attacks more frequently based on your chosen character abilities) with different CG cut scenes which improves the replay ability of the game very much. The gameplay is very balanced and addictive. You can be sure you won't find the strategic depth in battles and you can rely on your button mashing abilities more than your brain to win the fights but believe me this is too fun even for lazy players like me. Graphics are one of the best ever available on PSP but the cut scenes were really buggy and full of stuttering for me and I don’t know whether it was because I played the game on a memory stick or not? Anyway rather than this the graphics were really excellent and different armors available for the character helps the game to be less boring especially when you play with the big guy (Morgrim) you can see the details of different armors much more better than the other ones. Gameplay in total are not so innovative or revolutionary but if you played the dungeon siege series before you won't have any complaints about it just like me. Leveling system is one of the advantages of this game it really works and you can gradually develop your skills and learn the new ones and believe me there are many different type of skills and each character has a unique set of them. Some of these skills are passive and you don’t need to equip them but some can be equipped and used in battle like the ordinary weapons which are really useful in the heat of battle. Sound quality is awesome too. The lack of voice acting is of course has its effect on the overall value of the game but except this which is I am sure due to budget issues everything else about the sound is perfectly done especially the music which is really captivating and glorious. There are no apparent bugs in the gameplay in fact the only bug I have encountered through the game was when your follower dies and you need to summon you other follower it takes 2 consecutive commands which means the first time you have summon your next follower it will not appear in the game and you should do this again. The story of the game is really deep and interesting and is different in details for each of the characters which mean each of them has its personal interests and view the world of the game in its point of view. In the end I think this title is still among the best RPGs for PSP alongside with Brave Story and the only thing which is limited its great potential is the lack of voice acting and not so quality and informative cut scenes which have decreased its ultimate potential.
