In general its definitely a fun game. Eerily similar to BG:DA. In fact, so similar that it almost feels like an expansion pack of that game at times. I would certainly say "recommended if you like" could be said about either of these games referring to the other. For those who played BG:DA to death as I have, I would also strongly recommend just starting the game on "hard". Since the combat and spells will be fairly familiar, "normal" difficulty will most likely be too easy. On the other hand if dying in BG:DA got on your nerves you may be very happy with "normal" difficulty. It comes down to taste. The hack/slash in D&D Heroes seems well balanced and initially, at least, it gives you much more variety than BG:DA. With four character, spells, finishing moves, etc, there is certainly a lot of replay potential for the four main characters. I have read that there are not other "unlockables" but I still think it warrents a good grade in the replayability catagory. Its also a great control scheme. You have at least 2 spells at the ready, melee weapon, and distance/item as well. One button for each which works very well with the Xbox controller. I will say that the controls are "made" for the Controller-S because your quick health and magic potions are mapped to B+W and I don't think you can re-assign the controls. It just won't be quite as comfortable with the older/original Xbox controller. I can't help comparing this game to BG:DA because its just to convenient. To that, all I will say is if you have not played BG:DA, than buy or rent it before putting $50 down on this game. If dungeon hack and slash is your type of game you need to own BG:DA anyway and its cheap. Areas where D&D Heroes could have used a bit of work are "polish" issues. The graphics are defiantly good but the framerate is not consistent at all times. Especially when you zoom all the way out which is often used for distance attacks. Another thing that crept up from time to time are some strange hit detection with certain platforms and traps. In some cases the detection was spot on while other times you could stand a few feet away from a trap and trigger it. The last nitpick that bothered me were the cutscenes (I think its a mix some are pre-render some are in-engine) occasionally have noise or what looks like a video sync problem. None of these things are major and don't take much away from gameplay but I would have liked to see it worked on just a bit more. I suspect they were trying to get it out before BG:DA 2 which seems like good move. Still D&D Heroes is a lot of fun and it bests the original BG:DA in many ways. To sum it up. + Interface + Camera + Gameplay + Multi-player - Polish - Innovation - Frame rate/smoothness I certainly have not played enough of the game to draw a final conclution but if I had to guess I would say 8/10.
