I've played oodles of the RPG and Tactics games out there -- from PC to handhelds. One complaint I've always had is that while most of these games have exceptional art and music, there is a misguided belief that there must be a complex story line and ten hours of meaningless dialogue to accompany the "Math" or "Combat Sequences" of the game. Thankfully, Kuju understood that Dungeons and Dragons is about two things: 1. The Dungeon and 2. The Party. I rolled my characters and entered a dungeon with a bare bones 'background" but "endless" possibilities which is what D&D has always been about. I can keep this review simple -- if you are looking for something that will play like Final Fantasy Tactics you will not enjoy the merciless nature of Dungeons and Dragons Tactics. If you play tabletop Dungeons and Dragons and you’re looking to feed the need when your tabletop club isn't available...it's perfect. The dungeons have atmosphere, creatures hide in the darkness, spells light up the deepest dungeons beautifully and even go terribly wrong at times. Again, if your idea of a Tactical RPG is Final Fantasy or Tales of Symphonia etc.. Then you will have a hard time cutting your teeth on this bad boy. Four player ad-hoc just adds to the success of making this a true D&D game on the PSP. Trust me folks, the core 3.5 rule books are stuffed nicely into the Sony PSP. I'd write more, however, I just got squashed by an Attack of Opportunity while writing this review. If you understood that........then buy the game.
