I haven't played a Dynasty Warriors game on a regular console since the very first instalment in the series. It was a pretty awesome game, with huge free-roaming environments, maintaining a good frame rate and draw distance, as well as good graphics with many characters on screen. The gameplay was kind of repetitive, but what can you expect from a self proclaimed hack-and-slash? The best part of the game was being able to run around in the battlefield and feel as though your actions made a difference. Unfortunately, Dynasty Warriors for the PSP seems to take all the enjoyable parts listed above and drop them, leaving a weak, watered down game with only the repetitive and boring elements remaining. You see, Koei have gone as far as to remove all large environment free roaming from the original (i guess due to technical restrictions, at least that's what they'd tell you) and replaced it with a battle map where you select each battlefield and are beamed down into it to beat a few people up. Each mini-battle lasts for as little as 20 seconds up to 4-5 mins, and takes place in the bland environments I mentioned. Having just spent $45 on the game I tried to sit and play it for a while, but it was just no good. Within 30 minutes (I'd completed the first two battles), I was playing metal gear ac!d again. Gameplay isn't the only problem, the graphics suffer from very short draw distance, bland environment design, and while the character design is pretty solid if you look at a character standing still you can often see the textures glitching out right in front of you. The sound is pretty good, it has all the hack and slash, "ugh" and "ahh!" sounds you'd expect, and a kind of rocky soundtrack that plays on the PSP menu and the game's main menu. But can good sound save a game this bad? I really do recommend that you just don't play this game. I loved DW for the PS2, but really (and I mean really), you will probably regret even just playing this game, never mind buying it.
Dynasty Warriors... Well, what can I say? It´s a fair game, but I advise that only dedicated fans buy it. If you are a dedicated fan, than the game can be vicious, if not, you can get bored in three, four days. The ... Read Full Review
