Earthbound is a charming tale of the adventure of the now-famous character Ness (SSB and SSBM) back in his early days (still has last appearance in America). So he's a boy, a young teenaged boy. Probably like 15ish give or take, and aliens crash-land near by via a meteor. Also, he at about this time discovers he has psychic powers... So you go on a quest, trying to save the world from an intergalactic tyrant (like Frieza) and meet many new friends on the way, and have many humorous adventures. The cartoony, unapologetically bright graphics work perfectly to suit the games sense of humor and style. The sound is excellent, and very unique. You only get four characters throughout the game you actually keep, but you meet many of friends, some who will help you in combat. The game is overall a masterpiece RPG, and loads and loads of fun. A great way to spend 20 plus hours of your life, if you would have spent it on some other video game anyway. I recommend this to anyone who likes RPG's and has a good sense of humor.

Most people have played this game by now, but if you haven't, some reviewers suggest the extreme linear nature of the game (the original game came with a free strategy guide) and the cartoony, even primitive graphics. When I first played the game, it was post-Chrono Trigger, post-FF3, Post-SoM, yet I wasn't turned off by the graphics. I liked the brightness of the game, it added a unique personality too it that was perfectly complimented by the quirky music and sounds.

Earthbound was great for its simplicity. It's the king of the linear RPGs in my opinion. It's a great game for "Checklisters" who have to do everything a game has to offer before they can stow it away, because the game itself pretty much assures you that you'll get 90% of it done just from playing. The other 10% is the few extra opportunities, like buying a house, or finding the Sword of Kings, trying to get every photo-op possible, etc.

This is by far one of my favorite games to restart and replay over and over. I don't know why. Some people criticized the leveling system, saying it's too easy, but I love it. It's great that you can become very powerful with a little elbow grease and hard work. It's quite rewarding to walk up to an enemy and beat them by default without even going into battle, if your stats are that much higher than theirs. This is something I wish more games imitated.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Hope you all agree.
