You will enjoy this game. Even if you don't like RPG's, or video games!

Earthbound may be the greatest video game ever made. If not the greatest, than it is surely in the top five. Earthbound (known as Mother II in Japan) is actually the second game in a very popular RPG series, even though it was the only one ever "officially" released in America. Earthbound is pure genius. The premise seems usual: a boy on a quest to save the world from some evil force gathers friends and travels around. Basically the standard RPG formula right? But how many RPG's feature such an insanely trippy story with such wacky enemies, outrageous locals and insane items and quests. The enemy design is reminsant of Akira Toriyama's work in the Dragon Quest series: all of the enemies are fun, colorful, and outrageous. Through you're quest you will fight zombies, crazed animals, various household objects, robots, trees, sign posts, piles of vomit, evil aliens, demonic spirits, mummies, and wacked out hippies using weapons such as slingshots, frying pans, baseball bats,laser guns, and psycic powers! Great battle commentary makes up for a complete lack of battle animations and the attacks from you and your enemies are hilarious at times (who pulls a protractor out in the middle of a battle anyways?).
The battle display is clever and the menus are asetheticlly pleasing. Dispite how bizarre the adventure seems the story is extremely well written and the characters are engaging. Rarely in an RPG is the quest so exciting. The modern day setting is refreshing and the items and weapons are a healthy change from standard fantasy fair. Your health is restored with real food (hambergers, pizza, protien drinks, coffee, juice, ect.) life is restored with Life Noodles! The locales share this feel (drug stores sell basic supplies, department stores carry wide varieties of products, hospitals heal the sick and dead, and your money must be withdrawn from an ATM! Hotels give you a complimenary newspaper (reporting the latest world news) and you save using a telephone. You can even have a pizza delivered to your character! With so much fun that can be gotten from this game, it would be crazy to skip it!
