The best - not RPG, but THE BEST single player game OF ALL TIME!

User Rating: 10 | Mother 2: Gyiyg no Gyakushuu SNES
If you pop your head up and big smile comes across your face when you hear a bike bell, you are an Earthbound fans. If you speak pig Latin even if no one understands you, you know are an Earthbound fan. If you believe in Nessie, you are an Earthbound fan. If you would carry a baseball bat for protection, you are an Earthbound fan. Earthbound is my favorite game of all time, second only to Secret of Mana. That is enough said. In fact, I am not writing this review to persuade someone about this game, this is for my shear love and devotion for Earthbound. The story was a standout during its time, both Mother (the original NES version that never made it too the U.S.) and Earthound share a similar story, but they are different games. Earthbound, the SNES version, takes a young man and his hat across the world, meeting new people and fighting the evil Giygas and his infection on the world, collecting tunes from specific places on the Earth. All along the way, your worst nightmare – your neighborhood archrival Pokey, tries to stop you using powerful machines provided by Giygas. Of course, you have to defeat a lot more evil than a 13 year old and a space invader. You have to defeat zombies, cult leaders, Hippies, department stores, crazed animals, sea monsters, and street thugs, to name a few. The graphics are not fashy, but graphics don't have to push the envelope to be good, this game's graphics fit mood and style of the game perfectly and that is what counts. You never ask more of this game, it meets all standards at every level. The connection with the characters, the feeling of the environment, it is all in our time... it brings everything home, and players can relate. The music is unfrogetable, the events are life changing, this game is like a real good movie that you play and make the most of. For a 10th grade thearter project I made an interpration of this game, it was classic. This is a great game, it should be played by everyone. It is a great step away from the so many futuristic or medieval type RPGs. I wish someone would put this on a disc so I could play it again on the PS2, Xbox, or heck I would even go out and buy a Game Cube just to play this game again. I still have the cartridge but after almost ten years I doubt it would play, even if I found a SNES. I LOVE THIS GAME….
