A strange world, but a great puzzle game never-the-less

User Rating: 8 | Eets PC

Eets is a puzzle game set in a fairly strange world. Eets is a little white creature with a big head, small body and a big appetite. Eating different marshmallows changes Eets' emotional state, which then changes his behaviour.

You have to use Eets' behaviour and the environment to navigate Eets to the puzzle piece to complete each level. There's a marshmallow to make him happy where he jumps short distances, angry to make him jump large distances, scared to make him turn around at ledges.

There's all sorts of crazy objects like guns you place on clouds which fire chocolate chips, pigs that fire explosive baby flying pigs out of their butts; ginseng who are armed with a gun, 'prankster' whales that swallow and expel objects/Eets far distances; explosive carts, and more. In each level some of these items are set, and you will have a selection yourself to place down. You can then hit the Play button and Eets will begin moving. Some objects can be interacted with and others require objects to be within range to automatically trigger, so requires a combination of logic as well as a bit of timing. It's all got a hint of the classic game Lemmings since you don't have direct control over your character and must use logic and timing to reach the goal. You can speed up the game or slow it down if it helps with timing or reduces the tedious nature of replaying the level with only a minor tweak. The way the system works is great for a trial and error process, because you can see how it plays out, prematurely hit the 'stop' button, tweak some objects, then hit 'play' again.

Some levels can have multiple solutions, and you are awarded medals if you don't place all your items. If you do get stuck, you get a free hint which usually tells you where to place one of your items. If you struggle to find the solution after numerous attempts, you are given the option of seeing the solution which is essentially a free pass to the next level.

Weirdly, there are occasions where simply re-hitting the play button without changing any item placement somehow results in a different outcome. So if you live your life based on advice by Einstein (“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”), then you may spend a bit longer on the puzzles than you envisaged.

There's a good amount of puzzles in the game, plus there's an easy-to-use level creator which can extend your gaming time by playing community created maps or ones you design yourself.

Eets is a great puzzle game. There's enough content and enough clever puzzles to keep you entertained. I do feel though, that the weird world sometimes makes the puzzles a bit harder especially when you haven't played the game for a while and have to remind yourself of what the pig, whale and ginseng actually does.
