Empire was a game I played on Unix machines. The maps could be printed out on plotters (wide paper printers). This was the first strategy game I played that had a both good AI and movement code. The computer would sneak those transports in on you from nowhere. The AI hit you where you least expected it. Your units were simple. Cities that can produce Armies or fighters. Then coastal cities that can produce subs, transports, cruisers, or destroyers inaddition to arnies and fighters.
This graphics version of Mark Baldwin's classic is a very good effort. The modern RTS games grew out of this classic. Thanks Mark Baldwin for your ground-breaking creation!
