*Almost* more trouble than it's worth.

Based on my limited experience so far, this is the most disappointing Total War game in the franchise. This is based entirely on all the heartache, hassle and frustration I had to go through just to get it to work on my system, which is why I have spent so little time with it so far.

When a person pumps a fair amount of money into a whiz-bang graphics card, and even more money upgrading to a quad core processor and additional RAM, that person doesn't want to have to set all the graphics options to the lowest detail setting and run the game in a window just for it not to crash his computer over and over again.

Having said that, I really like a lot of the changes to the game. I like not having to march a diplomat all over the map just to propose a trade agreement with other countries (which may have been more realistic, but annoying). I also like the addition of naval combat, as does everyone, I suspect. Most of all, however, I like that there are now other strategic targets such as farms and centres of industry in the various regions that can be attacked in order to try to draw defenders out from behind the walls of the cities.

I expect that I'll find lots more to like about the game as I play it more, and I'm afraid the score I've given it has suffered because of all the crash bugs that I've encountered. I guess what's most important is that, now that I've finally gotten the program to work, I'm having fun.
