Elite Beat Agents this is not. But ...
There's a little story in this game wherein you're a newbie trying to have a crack at the big time. On the way, you of course have to beat a good number of dancers. And its done by performing moves that are handed out via a tutorial everytime a new "set" is available. Unlike EBA, here the gamer has the option to pick-up the set for the entire dance routine. A single dance number is divided into multiple parts, and your target is to of course, beat your opponent scores. Picking up sets that is easy to execute but enough to beat your opponent scores is probably the best way to win the competition.
The moves here range from the usual tap-timing like in EBA, rubbing like crazy, to a bunch of weird moves that doesn't look like it has anything to do with the dance move that the character is trying to perform. The hefty amount of moves in this game can be a good and a bad thing depending on how you look at it. For one, it is more challenging than EBA. But frustration can set-in once you're already halfway of the ladder because sets can be irritatingly difficult.
The graphics and animation is surprisingly good. There is a good amount of dance animation done by the character on the screen and doesn't at all feel repetitive. The animation however doesn't always reflect the failure of a given move and is only often times signaled by a grunt or an "oh!" from your character. You also have a choice between multiple hair colors, outfit, etc before the start of the show.
Sound quality is quite nice. Although you won't hear any licensed tracks here, the music that your character dances to is better than your usual "made-up" songs on other game titles.
This game in my opinion has a potential. If the game doesn't ask you to execute non-sense WTF kind of stuff on the screen to perform moves, plus the addition of licensed tracks. Then I think this could be a good contender for EBA. But of course the addition of a male dancer is a must to attract male gamers.
.:My reviews are only as good as everyone else's. Take every single one of them with a grain of salt:.
