Upon jumping into eRepublik you create your own citizen, choose a country, then region and off you go. Highly Addictive.

eRepublik, or "erep" as its commonly referred to in-game and out, is an easy game but highly addictive if you can integrate with the community. Once you reach a high enough level you can fight. Rank up a couple more levels (getting experience points faster by fighting daily) you can vote, then another level or two down the road join a political party. It isn't long before you can run for one of three in-game political positions.

There is a Congressman (elected from the different regions and put forth by one of the Top 5 parties). Depending on how many regions your country has controls just how many congressman you have.

Another job is "Party President". The Party President is elected once a month (like all other in-game political appointments) and controls party funds for advertising, chooses who gets to run for congress in their party and can change the party name.

The last and most important position is Country President. You as President determine who to attack (out of nations that border you) can propose alliances with propose peace with other nations. You can also propose a "New Citizens Message" to be sent to all new players, but only with approval of the congress.

The game itself is basic. You can do all of the games major mechanics within a quarter of an hour every 24 hours (which is an eDay in eRepublik). The fun all lies in the community. Join your nations "official" forums! Talk to people on the IRC!

Due to the war module and size and scope of many countries, almost every country president has created a "Cabinet" that like RL includes such things as Secretaries of various Departments or even structured and funded military units made up of organized players who are active and committed. If you don't want to join your nation's official military forces or you don't meet the strength requirements (determines along with "rank" how much damage you do with weapons) then you can likely join a political parties paramilitary tactical military unit. Many of these exist in nations such as the United States.

This game is extremely addicting once you get into it. I've been playing since January 17, 2009. Now its January 5th, 2010. I've made lots of new friends, met people in my own area and have a fun game to play when I'm bored.

Do not be confused, this "game" is a social game. All of the fun is in working with other people and working your way around the many countries in the game.
