User Rating: 8.3 | ESPN Major League Baseball XBOX
The WSB series is the last to make the name change in Sega’s sports lineup to the ESPN presentation. While it is a good effort to make the most unique baseball game, out there it really did not exceed my expectations but rather had me a little confused on a graphical standpoint. Well, starting with the gameplay ESPN MLB is one of the best if played with a great new hitting scheme that doesn’t contain a curser but you simply wiggle the left analog stick where and how you want to hit the ball. More gameplay features include new trophy room feature somewhat like the Crib feature in ESPN NFL but it seems more like just a simple add on because it is not as in depth as of the Crib. The new add on of the Dominican Republic and Venezuela all-star team is included. The graphics are clean running at a smooth frame rate especially with the different animations. The player models are a little clunky but look very well their faces are the one thing I am confused about graphically. The faces are 2D renderings and while most are ok, some few are just outright ugly reminding me of the movie The Fly. The game includes 720p High definition I have not seen it in this mode but im hoping that this will change the face issue. Overall, the graphics are very good with great uniforms some glisten in the sun, it contains accurate shadows, and the players actually breathe hard when they run for a triple. The highest point for this game has to be the sound it has some hilarious remarks from the crowd like “go back and play your guitar Bernie Williams”. The game has utilizes all the benefits of the ESPN label by including Karl Ravich and John Miller, John Miller does a good job making you really think you are watching real ESPN 2night baseball. The goodies provide are digital 5.1 surround sound support. Well, overall ESPN Major League Baseball is a great game I believe the best on Xbox because of the Xbox Live compatibility, better announcers, and in depths GM feature. If you love great simulation baseball games and would like to play others over Xbox Live then get ESPN Major League Baseball.
