Imagine the biggest waste of money you've ever bought...and then some. That's what ET: The Extra Terrestrial is. This game almost single-handedly caused the crash of the video game industry in 1983. It only gets worse from there. There is a landfill in New Mexico that is home to hundreds of thousands of these ugly little cartridges...buried in the dirt...waiting to one day decompose and die. Yes, ET: The Extra Terrestrial is among the worst games ever made. Actually, it's often considered THE worst game ever made. Why? Well, first of all, the developers had six weeks to develop it. As if it wasn't already off to a bad start, once it was released, only around 37% of the games that were made were sold. And trust me, no one who actually bought the game got their money's worth. The game centers around ET, the extra terrestrial whom you play as. You travel through a few screens (yes, only a few) to collect pieces of a device that, when assembled, will allow you to "phone home". As if this wasn't fantastic enough, you can even find Reeses Peices as health items, though I'm not exactly even sure how the "health" works. This game was also very glitchy. From time to time, ET will fall in a hole on the screen. Now, sometimes you can get out, but it is a boring, long process. Other times, you can't get out. Yippee... So, all in all, Atari mutilated themselves by making this game. And after you play it, you may want to mutilate yourself as well. I'd give this game a 0, but I can only go down to 1.
