Ever heard of Poe or Lovecraft circle? A must for this literacy fans, a must for almos every player!

User Rating: 9.1 | Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem GC
While not taking literally all the names and characters from Lovecraft's books, the plot of this game is very based on that universe. Basically, in our everyday world, there's a war between different ancient entities, kind of elemental gods, which had been imprisoned in several places and whose followers, humans among them, keep trying to free and bring them full in our reality plane to take over the world. At first it appears like an horror tittle but, as for the literacy it's based on, is a more deep history including fiction and fantasy as well.

For the game. There are 12 controllables characters, whose chapter in the history takes place in different time through human history. There some nice weapons available to each of them, as well as some specific characteristics depending on their role. Also, each of them have different strengths and weakness (some have more health, some more magic and some more sanity). The game is driven by main character finding and reading along the chapters of the rest to find out about the weird murder of her grandpa.

The most appealing feature are the "insanity effects", which actually make you pretty nervous and which can vary from some very related to the gameplay itself (blowing yourself when doing an enchantment, bleeding walls, yourself being chopped to pieces without any visible enemy, etc.), to some others really unexpected (tv volume decreasing, tv shutting down, all your inventory or saved game erased, etc.). This "insanity meter" is affected by the sight of some monsters and as the actual attack form by some others.

The game contains also three different "gods" which can change some elements when replaying the game (different mosters, weaknes, etc.), and that let you complete the game 3 times to get some other bonuses.

At the end, I can truly compare this game, in value and originality, to RE4 or Metroid Prime to be one of the most perfect and best developed games I've seen. A must for any GC collection.
