An unforgettable horror adventure that refuses to play by the rules.

Eternal Darkness is an unusual brand of horror. It's not survival horror. It certainly has some of the cheap thrills of the Resident Evil series, but it also aims to mess with your head the way Silent Hill does. And it has some some great gameplay elements of its own. The story of Eternal Darkness seems rooted in classic horror literature. With some Edgar Allan Poe and particularly H.P. Lovecraft in it. It spans centuries and has 13 playable characters. The story is pieced together thorugh these characters as each of them fights a great evil in his or her own time. Combat consists of both fire arms and melee weapons, to which you can also add magic. It would play like a normal survival horror game if the game didn't include a great gameplay twist of its own. Madness is a recurring theme in the game. There is a sanity meter. As your character sees monsters and other disturbing images, the sanity meter will start depleting, and will cause them to start experiencing hallucinations. This is where the game gets really fun. Freaky experiences start to happen, and some are aimed at the player themselves. You can keep your sanity meter from depleting by killing more monsters. It's not a visually impressive game, but it does feature excellent voice acting that compliments the great plot, which takes many unexpected turns. Eternal Darkness is a great horror game that's not to be missed.
