The presentation of the story is amazing. Immersive and captivating while not seeming drawn out. I felt like I was in the movie "From Beyond" where I was never sure what was going to come out next. Seriously, the enemies are so bizarre and creepy that you wonder it this is out of a John Carpenter nightmare. The controls are ok, not the best bout they get the job done and the weapons are adequate as well. What really does it is the intense storyline and the multiple periods that the scenario takes place in. It's really cool to run through a level once then again 800 years later and notice the wear that time has had on the tombs/ churches that you are in. To be in a church in the medieval times then again in the same church as it is used as a hospital in WWII is simply amazing. Obviously renovations are made over that time and new wings are added on but you know the setting, though there are several subtle differences. The dark story line leaves a sour feeling in your mouth as some of the characters you control meet a less than favorable ending. I actually played it through 3 times just to see the different endings. Simply put, this was one of the most enjoyable, disturbing and satisfying games I have ever played. No wonder it took 3 years to make... if only more were even half as deep as this.
