A strategy gamers ultimate dream come true. An excellent addition to the EU franchise.

I wrote this review immediately after EU Rome was released, and only gave the game a 7.0 at the time due to some very annoying issues. However, Paradox, unlike most major PC game makers, has completely patched the game and today the game truly shines.

All the elements are here to make this one of the greatest strategy games of all time...challenging AI, beautiful strategy map, many factions to play, historically accurate, etc. If you like the Europa Universalis series of games, or are a serious hard-core gamer, than this is a must-have. If you prefer RTS games, though, you will likely be turned off. Unlike the Total War games, the EU games are only for serious strategy gamers that don't mind spending weeks, or months, building their empire and actually carefully thinking about their next move.
I have only one complaint about EU Rome: The manual. Unlike the other EU titles, the manual that comes with EU Rome is flimsy at best. I highly recommend the Strategy Guide, which is free when you purchase the game via direct download from GamersGate.
