It's a pity a game with potential would turn out like this. The gameplay and character development is horrid...

When I first got my PS2 for my birthday, I was given this game alongside a copy of Starwars: Starfighter. Evergrace was the first game that I played out of the two, as I was a big fan of RPG's. Unfortunately, this game was more of an action adventure than an RPG. This was not it's downfall, however. Read on to see why... Evergrace features two playable characters; a boy and a girl, brother and sister. They are torn away from each other by a mysterious foe. They begin a search to discover who this opponent is, and to find each other in the process. There is no character development in this game whatsoever. The two characters don't change at all throughout the story. They keep the same boring tone of voice; evidence of poor voice acting. On top of this, the story is misplaced and confusing. The gameplay is simply annoying. From the beginning of the game to the end you are given the most pointless weapons. Not only this, but they break on a regular basis and cost a lot of money to replace... money that is extremely hard to get. Some helmets consist of frying pans. Obviously a lot of work has gone into the equipment design. The graphics are not adequate. Although, this was one of the first games to be released on the PS2, but that is hardly an excuse. The textures used in the game stand out, and are displeasing for the eyes. Also, the camera angles are continuously getting in your way and causing you to fall in the poorly rendered ocean. Evergrace is not the worst of games, but far from the best. It had a lot of potential, but the game turned out as a complete disaster on Agetec's behalf. No wonder they never made an Evergrace II.
