Too much instanced areas destroys the game immersion.
Years after and the game will still play bad on modern pcs. On top of that the game is extremely instanced and unlike Everquest and World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 is plagued with loading screens everywhere, there is no huge open world, just smaller areas linked by a loading screen.
Those 2 elements were the downfall of Everquest 2. They recently decided to make it Free to Play, an even worse game experience due to its severe gimp towards gameplay.
If you never played Everquest i doubt you would like to play such dated game, but if you are an Everquest player and wants to check the sequel just don't. I'm saving you time and money trying this sequel.
It doesn't deserve the name Everquest on it. Hopefully Everquest 3 will restore this franchise glory but it was almost killed by EQ2.
