The previous Evil Dead games were really bad. But don't fool yourself, Evil Dead: Reneration just plain fun. Groovy.
The storyline follows from the second installment of the movies, back in that ol' evil cabin, where you, as Ash, make your way through a bunch of deadites. But it seems that this time, he has forgot to bury all those corpses, and police found them, having Ash acused of a mass murder instead of a hero that he was. Who would believe in such a nonsense like people posessed by the will of a book, bounded in human flesh and inked with human blood?
Gameplay shows itself pretty funny. It somewhat resembles God of War, with less complexity. Ash is given his regular Boomstick and Chainsaw duo, but you get other weapons through the game as you play. There is a neat combo system, in which you can toss deadites in the air and shoot them, or ravage them finishing with a jumping chainsaw attack, or shooting a blast right into their face, well, you got the ideia. Too bad that it was made only a few couple movements for this system, but they are more than enough to get your blue shirt stained with deadite blood. Personally, I loved it. There are some cool finishing moves that you can perform when your enemy becomes vulnerable, that I really can't describe here, it's simply cool.
Ash's voice acting, of course, is awesome. Bruce Campbell trademark jokes with badass attitude are all through the game. And that's not all, our hero get's himself a sidekick in this game, literally speaking. Sam, a midget deadite whose spirit wasn't fully posessed by evil, that will help you in your quest along the game. And Ted Raimi did an excellent work in his voice acting. Actually, he remind me of Larry Laffer somehow... You can kick him right at the enemies or several places to solve some funny puzzles along the stages, and you can posses him so that Ash can make his way through tiny places and riding huge deadites.
All in all, it is a great game, and there's a lot of fun packed within it. You can bet it is much better from the previous two that were really bad. Obviosly, it could have done better, if spent some more time refining the gameplay and graphics, but don't fool yourself. This game is really a handfull of fun.
