If you like Counter Strike with lots of hollywood effects, get FEAR Combat.

At 1.7 GB it is a bit of a DL, but well worth it. A full commercial MP mode game. FEAR Combat is fairly standard in what it offers, DM/Team, and Control (take over control points around the map). It does manage to include the slomo found in the single player game via one of its play modesm, but still is ultimately Team Death Match. Level designs are mostly interior/hallways with some good open areas. Lots of maps though little variation in how one plays each of them (unlike say Unreal T4). No vehicles, and while not a huge selection of weapons (about 8) they are all very solid and satisfying to fire.

Where FEAR shines is in the presentation. Lighting effects, debris, smoke, bullet streams, shrapnel, blast waves, flames, and good texture damage marks all make the firefights extra exciting. Yes a decent computer is required (more than decent) to get the max out of it but even at lower rezes you can get some great visuals.

Gameplay is solid and fair, within a few games you will find the weapons well balanced and easy to use. FEAR never feels cheap or leaves you thinking your getting scammed by some uberplayer. Player limit is 16 and that is more than enough to feel like part of a solid battle.

It is free, fun and the best free MP on the market.
