User Rating: 9.3 | Fable XBOX
Fable is one of the only RPGs on the Xbox to really have an impact on the system. It features some great and easy to use mechanics of gameplay that make the fighting more enjoyable. The overall game is very short on the main quest, and there aren't many side quests, but there is lots to do outside of that. Why not hit on the governor (actually I should say governess)? She may be a pain in the rear, but she sure has lots of money? Don't like her? KILL HER!....but that wouldn't be right now would it? This game lets you do almost whatever you want. It isn't Morrowind or anything on the free choice, but it's got some better features than Morrowind. Morrowind is extremely long, Fable is not, but Morrowind has crappy fighting and interactions with people. Fable, on the other hand, has hundred of things you can do to interact with people and there are plenty of skills to master that have a more cinematic feel than those skills of Morrowind. You are also free to kill anyone you want (with penalty of fines, which can be paid off or you can wait until the fine goes to zero, which may have you out of the village for a while). You can marry people (so that means women and men...even though you're a man...), flirt with people, get drunk (there's a pretty neat effect when you get drunk, then you eventually hurl), or just roam the lands of Albion killing anything and anyone that gets in your way. The game starts out as cliched as ever. You're village get burned to the ground with your family trapped in the blaze of raging bandits. Somehow you live and are confronted by a sorcerer who takes you to a place called the Hero's Guild. The Hero's Guild is a place where Heroes are trained and are sent out on quests to help others. For good, not for evil is the purpose of the Guild. The Guild then becomes you're home as you seek out the killers of your family. You seek not only revenge, but purpose for your existence. So here are my moans and groans and happy things about Fable: :::Happy Things!::: Interaction: You can insult, flirt, and even flip off people of Albion. There are many many things that you can do that people will react to. If you are an evil person, people usually will run at the sight of you or cower and plead for their life. If you are a good person people will clap for you and say, "Look! There's that hero!". Little kids will dance around your feet and you tend to get better prices at vendors. Open-Ended Gameplay: You are free to do almost anything you want on your watch. Good/Bad Relationship: If you do good deeds you look more heroic and eventually getting a halo and moths are attracted to the light from it (kind of funny if you think about it). You can do bad deeds and become a demon. You will grow horns, your eyes grow red with anger, a red mist clouds at your feet, and fly's are attracted to the rotten stench of your flesh... :::/\/\oans and Groans::: Length: The game is very short and there aren't many sidequests. Although there is a lot for you to do outside of quests too. Size: Ablion doesn't seem too big. It is roughly large, but it should be have been bigger with more towns. Skills: There are a lot of skills but it takes a while to get some of them and others aren't really that great. Now I'm going to state my reasons for my attribute ratings. Gameplay - 9 -: There is some good fighting (not the best I will admit) and there is plenty to do. You can travel from town to town and just do whatever. Buy a house, get married, whatever! Graphics - 9 -: Gamespot gave this game an award for the most light-bloom. Now I can see why. Everything seems to glow and is just beaming at you. It's almost blinding! Otherwise the textures look great and some effects are pretty good also. Not worth a 10 though. Sound - 10 -: Who can't get enough of that music? This game has some of the best music I've ever heard in a game. The sounds of crashing, banging, hitting, screaming, yelling, dying, running, and just about every other sound under the sun sounds very good. Value - 8 -: The game is good while it lasts. TOO SHORT! Tilt - 10 -: I didn't want this game to just get a 9.0 so I gave it the extra so it can be boosted just a little bit, you know? Overall - 9.3 -: Fable is a witty RPG with loads of laughs, action, and enough depth to keep you coming back for more.
