Ambitious yet Disapointing

What if every action you did resulted of what kind of person you are later on? You have a mind of your own and can do whatever you please, whenever you want. You are faced with both good and evil choices, and you can pick and chose which path to take. That's what hyped Fable to begin with, the inovation that you can do anything you want and chose what path to play. Four years in development, to create a game that is to be revolutionary and allow you to do anything. With such a fantastic concept, how can this game go wrong? Easily, it was overly hyped. Even though everyone advertised that you can be good or evil and can do whatever you want, the game was far too linear. You are given quests, and are to complete these quests whenever you want. But the catch is, you are only given a few quests at a time, and this make the game still very linear. At several points in this game, you are given a good or evil choice that is supposed to perminantly change the game... but the story does not change at all. Infact, the story is told the same way either way you chose, good or evil. And once you defeat the last boss, you are given the choice of which ending you want, good or evil. It makes the rest of the game pointless if you are given a choice of which ending you want... at the end of the game. What was the point of trying to complete all your good deeds to become good, when you could just fly through the game as fast as you can and just chose the good ending? On the subject of flying through, the game is WAY too short for an RPG. Most RPGs take ATLEAST 30/40 hours to complete. I completed the whole game in 7 hours, and I don't play many RPG games. But not only did I complete the whole game, but there are 3 quests that are unselectable. Yes, on the quest map, there are 3 quests that you can never play.. no matter what you do. Which is rediculous. Because this game is so incredibly short, there is basicaly no story at all in this game. There are some main characters, and a hero's guild and some theives, and some guy who ends up being the last boss.. but that's it. You can sum up this story in just a few lines, because there is next to no background to this story at all. Fable, like Zelda, is played like an action game and you fight in real time. This will appeal to action fans and Zelda fans. Infact, the gameplay is quite enjoyable. You can learn many different types of spells, build up your character how ever you want, and it gets quite fun making your character have different spells and attacks. The combat system is not at all hard to master either. The graphics are another high point of the game. The character models and a lot of effects look great. Although, it does get quite annoying that everything in this game is glowing quite brightly. The music matches the game pretty well, although, the voice acting will be found as very annoying to most people. The annoying fake accents will make anyone want to just turn off the volume all together on this game. "Oh, you're so norty. I think you used your will on me." Basically, this game is very fun. It has an excellent combat system and a wide array of different spells to learn and different abilities. But basically, the most fun you'll get is leveling up your character to fight a boss. Because other then that, you aren't really going to do much other then that. You'll mary a girl here, buy a house there. Maybe even cause a whole town to fear you. But there is very little replay value in the game, for the reason that there is little to do in this game. Seven through ten hours is the most it will take anyone to complete this game. If you want to play this game, rent it, I garantee you will finish it several times in one rental. If you REALLY enjoy it that much after renting it, then go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, beware of the shortness of this game.
