An Xbox game that even I, a PS2 fan, has to adore. Too bad your alignment doesn't affect the storyline.

I never really liked the Xbox, since I was raised as a Sony fan, but while at a friend's house, I saw this game and decided to pop it in. Immediately, I was introduced to a living world within a disc! At first glance at Fable, the graphics and the animations of the plants blowing in the wind to the simple wandering villagers. The world of Fable is huge! You have a lot of villages to explore and a ton of monsters to kill. The game feels very much like "Dungeons and Dragons", but here is the biggest feature in the game. Since all NPCs are killable, you are given the choice of Good or Evil. Being evil rewards you with large devil horns, red eyes, moon-colored skin, and a glowing crimson aura. Being good gives you the shining appearance, along with a cool halo over your head. But this is a flaw to this. Alignments have no affect on the storyline. If you are pure evil, so what? You will still have to fight the last boss. The only thing that comes out of it is how people look at you. As a hero, sure you get all the women, but where's the point to that if you can't have offspring? As a villain, all you get is constant enemies and people booing you or cowering before you. You get a large variety of weapons, both melee and ranged, and you also get to play dress up, so you can make your evil character look as bad ass as villains can be, or just run around in a hilarious dress. You also get magic, which can be a little flawful since a lot of spells are more flashy than affective. Also, the AI in the game is basically this: Attack and block. So while you are trying to kill a bandit attacking a villager when using a bow, suddenly, another villager gets in your way and you end up shooting him and gaining evil. But despite that, you are introduced to two buildings that you can earn a lot of good or evil. The Chapel of Skorm needs living people as sacrifices, which can earn you a LOT of darkness, and then, there is the Temple of . . . I forget his name, but when you offer money to them as a donation, each coin earns you one good alignment point. There are a lot of things to this game that I would type about, but I must cut it short. You can buy things and get drunk and team up with heroes or villains, and get married. Also, the quests aren't that bad either. Personally, despite my hatred towards Halo 2 (don't worry, Xbox fans, I like the first Halo a lot), I have to say that Fable is the one game any fan of any console has to admire. Bravo, Microsoft, bravo!
