Fable is one of the 10 xbox games (fable, ninja gaiden, halo 2, halo, BC, Jade empire, KOTOR 2, KOTOR, Mechassault 2, Conker) that are surrounded by such a mass of hype that you can barley wait a single day to test it for yourself. Hype can be both good and bads for games naturally, but in the case of fable it was mostly posetive. That said, many people were dissapointed by fable and what it lacked (Multiplayer co-op), but to be honest, fable delivers well beyond the call of any other game in years, and its the only game on xbox to even come close to comparing with ninja gaiden as the best action game on the xbox. fable cannot be described easily or with any meaningful detail, mainly because its an experience that cannot be found without seeing it for yourself. All aspects of the game are polished and put together extremely well, from the simple battle combat, to the magic casting, to the dialogue. All of it works out fantastically, and by the end you will be begging for more. What is most noteable about fable is the amout of freedom it gives you, kill anyone, steal anything, go anywhere, interact with anyone, earn renown, become famous, become evil, become good, be the hero, be the villian. The main goal of the game is to provide an experience that truly reflects your life as the warrior of albion: if you kill, people flee in fear, if you sve lives and work for the greater good, love follows you wherever you go. Its hard not to notice the incredible changes that each and ever action makes, and with 4 different endings, this one will keep you in awe long after its over. Fable's battle style is basically zelda on the xbox, x attack, L trigger block, R trigger cast magic, etc. However your character and how you fight clearly influences the battle, and the game fluorishes from the sheer amount of polish and quality that was put into this game. The interaction with other people around your world is easy, and sadly unrealistic, but thats not to say its bad. Many of the offered or recieved responses are very limited. But, its a step up from KOTOR which was already pretty good. Your life ages slowly, and if you neglect magic, it goes on for a long long time without age. This is cool if you dont want a senior citizen as your hero (or villain), but its still well worth experimenting with the magic. You scar if you are hit hard, you bruise, get drunk, sag, burp, fart, flirt, aploigize, growl, yell, scream, steal, sneak, roar a battle cry, and use the bathroom! how much more could you ask for, honestly. Other things worth noting are gambling, there are several types or games where you can gamble, you can purchse a house and funrnish it to your liking, you can live in it or sell it, or rent it out for some fast money. You can marry hederosexual, gay or bisexually and live in your house. You can earn a title, pay or sacrifice to the gods for favor, earn keys to open chests, slow time and you can even find legendary weapons which is a must if your goal is to beat the game quickly. You can fight in an arena for moneya and glory, the list of options just goes on. Overall, fable is packed with enough extras to warrant a purchase of 50 dollars easily. The game reaches for the sky, and oddly enough it strikes gold (when i say oddly enough, i mean because its really weird to see a game be so good after this game drought we have had, not since splinter cell 2 has the xbox really had anything great going for it). Buy it, steal it, borrow it, just play it by any means necessary.
