An incredible 18 hour playthrough the first time - look forward to playing it again.

Fable is a great game. After the relatively slow first hour (training and explanation of the good/evil gameplay elements) the game picks up and doesn't let go. The variety of gameplay styles and customization options is great and the game compels you to keep playing through and making your character the best he can be. Gameplay: Playing through the first time, I thought I had made many good choices in terms of what to level up at the beginning of the game. After finishing the game, I realized I had access to several different options that would have worked well too. The fact that I finished the game without using those other options makes me want to replay the game. It also shows that you can play the game how you want to and make the choices you want, and still be able to succeed. I like the way the game ramps up its difficulty. You can revisit and area several times, and each time you get there, the enemies are tougher and smarter. This way, it's always a challenge but not overwhelmingly difficult or frustrating. Character morality, whether you play good or evil, is not a gimmick. I personally could not be evil toward the end of the game because I did not want people to think badly of my hero for doing something evil. I wanted him to succeed, have a nice house, and have a good relationship with his husband (hooray for gay marriage). I even started to think about having a house in Bowerstone South, so if he ever adopted (not that you can do that in the game) his child could live in a place with other children and could have friends and go to school. All the while I kept telling myself, it's just a game, but that is how attached you get to your character. Graphics & Sound - Each area of Albion has its own look and style. The details in everything from the houses to the roads, bridges, etc. are amazing. This does feel like a real world. If you’ve ever been overwhelmed by Hyrule in the Zelda games, this game is even better. The sound rivals that of Halo, not in style, but in quality. I would certainly buy this soundtrack if it ever became available. It's that good. The characters do repeat some of the same sayings again but it still feels good to have people call you liberator and cheer you on as you enter a town. The characters also comment on your recent exploits and what you need to do next. Value and Reviewers Tilt - It took me 18 hours to complete the game doing just about all the side quests (I didn't do the evil ones since my character was good). That time did not include time in menus or anything else. If you add the time you spend buying spells, cycling through inventory, etc. playtime is more likely to be 20 hours or so. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward continue playing as good, and start a new game and be evil. I really want to see how the world changes. That will make the game a 36 to 45 hour one for me. Closing Comments - While its true that this game may not have lived up to the hype of being the best RPG ever, it is incredibly good. Everyone with an XBOX should play this game at least once. It’s like the grown up Zelda that you always wanted Nintendo to make but with a lot more characterization and options.
