Flaws keep it away from the superb area, but it's still a pretty great game.

Fable II (Xbox 360)

Fable II begins as you, a peniless orphan, and your sister are living normal lives: Trying to survive as best they can. But a strange man comes to town selling rare things. One of those is a music box, and so you go around town doing mini-quests to earn enough to buy that music box. Once you get it, your sister somehow knows it will grant a wish, and so she wishes to live in the nearby Farifax Castle. It is granted, and so you arrive at the castle, and (avoiding spoilers) then stuff happens, and when gameplay picks up again, you are an adult. The story is good. It remains exciting and has twists and turns that will keep you hooked. Well, it will keep you hooked while it lasts.

The main storyline is pretty short. Focusing on only the main quests will get you through the game in no more than 10 hours. But you can easily spend around 50 hours in the game, because there is so much to do. You can complete the many sidequests there are, buy out shops, complete the Gamerscore Achievements, find all the hidden treasures and gargoyles, and make yourself more evil or good.

Speaking of that, Fable II is one of those games where you have the choice to be good or evil. Here, you can be Pure or Corrupt, and Good or Evil. There are a number of ways to make yourself who you want to be. Being good can be from giving a little child your autograph to saving the world, and evil can be from running right into someone on the street, to forgetting the people and being greedy. There is also Renown Points, which is how famous or infamous you are. You can achieve renown points by being either good or evil.

The combat of Fable II is fun. You have 3 types of attacks: Melee, Ranged, and Magic. You'll have to use all of these to get through the game. By using the attacks you get that attack's kind of experience. Melee has Strength XP, Ranged is Skill, and Magic is Will. There is also a fourth General XP that can be used for anything. You use XP by buying Abilites with it. The abilites you buy can be more damage, larger health bar, better accuracy, faster reloads, and new types of magic to use. This system is unique, and is great and easy to use.

The graphics...aren't so good. A lot of things have straight sides, and a lot of things just don't look to good at all. There are also more problems that fall in this section. There are a lot of pop-ins. Not big objects, but a lot of small things, like shrubs and even shadows. There are times when shadows will be popping in right in front of you. And most noticable are times when the camera is detached from you and moving toward something; you can clearly see the pop-ins. But that's not so bad, it doesn't affect the gameplay and fun of the game.

Fable II's soundtrack isn't anything to boast about, but it's not too bad. There aren't many tracks, so you'll hear the same track more than once in the game, but most tracks are pretty good. My favorite was the menu track. It was quiet and almost...mystical. I hear it all the time in real life now. That's a good thing, though.

Fable II has flaws and isn't in the superb area, but it's a great game that offers a lot and is definetly worth playing.
