A great game, which unfortunately does lack a few things it did have in the previous title.
Fable 3 has some really interesting new features like a weapon based on the player's choices or the opportunity to take someones hand to lead him somewhere. Well, it would be great, if all the glitches, which seem to happen randomly, would not destroy it. It really is a pain. For an example, you enter the pause menu and all of the sudden, your butler does not talk to you anymore. Well, you might get over this, but the next time you enter the menu, there simply is a part of the wall missing. All frustrated about this, you leave the menu and suddenly your sword and gun, you recently purchased in a store, look like your hero weapons.
Such and many other bugs and glitches tend to take the fun you could have without them.
The story is interesting and something new, because you always started poor and unknown and now start as a prince. It also keeps the player entertained due to many unexpected and funny moments.
But unfortunately, the story is not very long and can be played through in twelve or less hours, which depends on whether you already played any game of the fable series or not. But even if so, it really doesn't last very long. I would guess about two days if you take your time. About the post-game I won't say too much, because it isn't much.
The gameplay, especially the choices are something that really impressed me, because they do influence the player's world far more than in any Fable games before.
While the combat system did not change too much, the pause menu and the stores were completely changed, which is sad, because some might miss the old, detailed pause menu from the previous titles. In this "pause-menu-room" you lack the ability to view items like potions, gems and merchandise. Unlike the previous titles, Fable 3 seems to have a weak economic possibility to earn money, instead, you have to purchase real estates, if you want to have enough money.
Another thing that tends to annoy the player, is the fact, that you have to advance in the story, in order to be able to spend your guild seals to gain new social actions and abilities, the ability to buy real estates and your own house, the ability to marry and have a child and the classic skills melee combat, ranged combat and willpower, which you had, excluding the classic skills, from the beginning in the previous titles.
The classic skills themselves were also greatly limited instead of being divided into sub-categories, leaving no space for individual choices regarding the abilites.
The stores were reduced to "buy what you see" instead of using a shop window, which does, of course, not allow great ammounts of merchandise, even limit it down to one or two objects per stall and only a few more per store. The weapon stores do only sell four weapons per store.
The interaction interface was, like many things in this game, reduced to the minimum. You have four choices of social actions to interact with people. If you want something that is not shown, you will have to either leave the interaction or do another social action. The social actions themselves, seem to be supposed to be used with the opposite gender, which tends to annoy the male player, if he wants to be friends with people of the same gender.
Now, to get to the greatest success of this game:
The Multiplayer mode. Of all the new features and such, the new multiplayer mode does impress me most. Unlike the previous titles, you now have the opportunity to join a players world with your own hero and weapons. And even better: You are now able to have business relations and marriages with other players. Also, as soon as you add another fable player to your friends, you may compare records like enemy kills and such and beat them. As you see, competition and cooperation are really close.
All in all, the game is able to entertain you due to the graphics and story, which allow the player to get into the game easily, which is supported by the easy controls. A frustration might occur later in the game, as the glitches start ruining your fun and even earlier for those who played the previous titles and compare those with Fable 3.
Those who played the previous titles might not be satisfied and those who never played Fable before should have quite some fun with Fable 3.
Considering all those factors, I am personally only able to rate this game with 6 / 10 made of:
Graphic: 7/10
The good old but at the same time improved Fable graphics, which unfortunately gets dragged down by the many graphical glitches.
Gameplay: 4/10
Well, the gameplay is quite limited which makes the score suffer a bit, but without the glitches, it would probably even make a score of 6/10
Story: 6/10
The story is good, the story is new, the story is unfortunately too short and the post-game contents are not enough for a 7/10.
Multiplayer: 9/10
As I already wrote before, I am really impressed about the great Multiplayer mode. Instead of repeating what I wrote before, I will just give a brief reason why I did not give it 10/10: Communication issues. It would be perfect, if it was possible to chat ,without a mic, via keyboard. Writing a mail to the other player is really a difficult and time sucking way to communicate.
