Fable franchise delivers on expectations but doesn't surprise us.

Let me start this review by saying that I am die-hard Fable fan. When the original came out, I was in awe of its originality, humor, and character. I loved Fable II for all the same reasons, though I was a bit disappointed (like most fans were) with how little the actual game contained of the Fable franchise's promises. So, when the franchise keyed-down the hype for this release, I was excited and hopeful that the game would be better than I expected. However, what I can say is that it was exactly the same game they advertised... and not much more.

I miss the "growing up" portion that the first two games contained. I thought this added a way for me to connect with my character and develop a history. However, the creators did add a voice to the character, which the first two games were sadly lacking. I call this a wash, because I don't feel any more connected to my character now that she has a dialogue with no history.

The combat is much the same as the first two games... and I enjoy the morphing weapons a great deal. This part gets a plus. As does the animation, humor, and story line. However... there again just wasn't enough content for me to feel like my money was well-spent on this game or that I could enjoy playing it over and over. The final year took place in just over 5 game days... how disappointing! I couldn't enjoy living as a ruler because it was over in a blink of an eye.

And... another thing. Yes, I'm one of those wussies that likes to choose the "good" option on everything. So... I kept my promises as queen. I thought "hey, I'll have plenty of time to quest and gather money. No problem." So imagine how upset I was when I found that not only did my good deeds not matter a penny... but when I went to play the game after the finale I was rewarded with a simplistic "Everyone hates you now... because you killed them all." What the heck! This was so upsetting that I wanted to throw my controller out a window. Add that to the fact that there is virtually no gameplay after the main quest is completed... and you have a game that is sure to disappoint.

I'm sorry Fable franchise... but you may have lost a die-hard fan with this game.
