Fable III is a couple of steps backwards for the series.

I bought and played Fable III with high hopes and expectations. In the first few minutes, I was faced with the choice of executing my girl or the leaders of the townspeople. Faced with such a challenge this early in the game made me anxious of what was to come. What came was an uninspired bore-fest. My choices, when there were choices, seemed insignificant. During the main plot-line, the only choice was to make a promise to better a situation for suffering people. The actions for interacting with the people of Albion have been diminished. I was only able to choose from whatever actions appeared on-screen, I was not able to select from a group of actions like previous installments. The hand-holding mechanic which I am led to believe was made to make players feel more involved in the game, was frustrating and distracting. The person I was leading often fell behind or got stuck on a wall, rock, or invisible barrier. I experienced several areal of lag when there was nothing happening. Just walking around town was a chore. Becoming all powerful early in the game and making choices seemed like a great thing, but sitting in the throne room, listening to point counter-point and choosing to keep or break a promise was not all powerful. It felt like I had very little choice for a game that is supposed to make you feel like it is your own. I reached the final battle quickly and it ended quickly. I had several encounters with normal enemies which lasted longer and were more difficult than the last battle. I could have made the game longer by doing fetch quests for every townsperson, but fetch quests are just that, get this and bring it back. This is one of the biggest disappointments for me this year. Think I'll play some Fable II to experience the better game.
