Fallout 3 Ganon's Review

User Rating: 9 | Fallout 3 X360

Ever wanted to know what the world may be like once it has ended? Then this is the game for you. Fallout 3 is a first person RPG ( or third person if you prefer ) set in the "Capital Wasteland", which is Washington DC after the Chinese dropped the bombs on everyone in 2077.

You begin the game by literally beginning. You start the game as a baby, and I haven't played as a baby in a game since I played Rugrats for the PS1. Without getting into too much detail, you and your father live in a "vault" which is like an over elaborate bomb shelter. You live there until you are 19 and without going into spoilers, are cast out of the vault forced to survive in the harsh wastes where almost everything will either want you dead and or eaten.

The gameplay is like that of a first person shooter. There is a massive open world to explore begging to be ventured, just keep away from the north-east side of the map if you are low level. You can take missions from the people who don't want you dead in return for money ( in this game it's bottle caps ), weapons, XP and many other things. If you want to survive your going to loot everything like a medieval minstrel.

There are many weapons available to you, such as your standard pistol, rifle, baseball bat, but you can also get buffed up versions of these weapons for things like ( usually ) damage increase. There's still more, you can also find unique weapons such as Lincoln's Repeater, Memesmetron and the Alien Blaster.

You will need these weapons due to the things that want you dead as I previously mentioned. At low levels you can expect things like Raiders, Molerats and Radroaches but at higher levels you can find Super Mutants, Radscorpions and Deathclaws, who will make stew out of you if not prepared.

As brilliant as this game is, no game is flawless.

Fallout 3 is filled with glitches such as enemies not dying, the world failing to load and even game freezes. Also, any Fallout 3 player will understand when I say that the Underground and subway tunnels are pretty rubbish. There are many of them and for the most part, are mandatory and they all look the same so it is pretty unappealing to the eye. If you get lost in the subway, God help you.

Overall this game is fantastic despite the glitches and the subway bits. Fallout 3 received 5 DLC packs which I will review individually for another time. This game get's 9/10 Geiger Counters.
