Fallout 3 is an RPG based in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. It's a true open world game, clearly inspired at least a bit by its older brother, the Elder Scrolls Oblivion. From the beginning of the game the story, while a bit cliche, is immersive and fun. While the world itself is smaller then oblivion, there are plenty of things to keep you busy whether you are questing or simply searching around. One of the key game mechanics, VATS, is probably one of the most interesting parts of the game that some will consider a strength and others a weakness. VATS lets you in essence freeze time and target specific vulnerable areas on your opponents to often deadly effect. It almost seems like the designers were worried that the shooting mechanic of the game was not able to stand up on it's own strongly enough and needed some help. Ultimately, I think it's a good addition, but would have liked to see it restricted to a more limited role. Some fights can turn into your character activating VATS over and over, making the ability feel less special and repetitive. That aside, the game really draws you in and allows for some truly great decisions your character will make that can effect the world of Fallout. I would highly recommend this game to anyone that likes RPG games.
