If you are a true RPG-fan, you should not pass this up. It is a fun game, which may steal hours of your life.
You create your own character from the beginning of the game when you are born. Most of the customization does not come from the Facial Reconstructions, but yet from what you do in the Wasteland. From what you do in the game, either you did something heroic, or you did the deed of evil, you get Karma. Low Karma justifies you as Evil, or Very Evil. High Karma justifies you as Good, or Very Good. And of course, the boring Neutral option. You get to look at your stats and karma at your inventory screen, or what the game calls it, Pip-Boy 3000. The Pip-Boy 3000 is a device you get when you are ten. It lets you look at notes you pick up. It lets you use things such as clothing, or weapons. Your Pip-Boy also tells you if you are crippled, it shows you you'r quests and where to find it on the map included on the Pip-Boy. The Pip-Boy is quite similar and a much brilliant version of your Elder Scrolls inventory screen. Karma can be pretty annoying at some times, such as when you can not get a follower because your Karma is not at the right place to acquire the follower, but where would we be if things were made easy, right? Karma also decides not just followers, but it each Karma has exclusive dialog to it. You also get to slowly build your character by starting out making your SPECIAL, your mini-skills that effect your stats. Every time you level up you get to upgrade your stats, and get to choose Perks which gives your character more options to do.
Dialog is another nice feature we would like to tell you about. You can choose what you want to say. It is useful if you want to know how to do something on a quest. Depending on what your SPECIAL, Stats, Perks, or Karma, some unlock exclusive dialog that chooses different paths to things. On stats, you get to choose how high you want your speech skill is, a feature which is handy if you use dialog a lot. Speech helps you get an easier path out of a quest, or to get something out of a guy, a lot similar to exclusive dialog choices. It is a pretty brilliant feature but it would be nice if your character has a voice, like Mass Effect. You choose what dialog option you want but it does not however show your character talk, a shame. And when you are in dialog mode, the NPC you are talking to shows no emotion. The eyes may change when they are sad but that is pretty much it. I also find it sort of poor that when you talk to them, depending on what situation it is at the moment, they seem to act like they would anyway. For example, they do not care if you just woke them up to talk to you, or if they are eating at the diner and you just interrupted them.
The combat system VATS is an easy way to make your combat easier. You click RB and then it completely pauses what is going on, and lets you choose which part of the body you want to trigger. It tells you the chance of you hitting the body part. Even though the head does more damage than the torso, you have a more chance of hitting the torso than the head. When you finally trigger where you want to attack, it shows you attack them in slow-motion but it is just not as great as plain and simply just attacking, but I must say it is better of staying there.
You can choose different path's to do during a quest but sadly does not effect the story.
The game is pretty fun, which a pretty interesting (and a bit sterile at times) storyline, if you can overlook those annoying glitches. Sometimes a radio signal in the game can repeat something they were only supposed to say once. And the game has annoying freezing moments at times too, that freezes your Xbox 360 too. Sometimes when you are near the water, a square of it may change color. The texture may also take time to completely load. At times it may freeze while loading which may corrupt your autosave. There are also a few minor holes in the rock and some of them are big enough you can even fit inside.
Overall, this game may have its ugly-side, but the great gameplay, entertaining radio stations, and story makes up for it. If you like RPG's, give this a try.
