Or is it now ? The old fallouts thanks to the new generation are becoming more obscure and bethesda think they can get away with anything .
From the bottom of my heart i want to give it a 0 but hell i'll be fair .
Main Story - For a fallout game this should be the main criteria . fallout 3 you go out to find your daddy , in fallout 4 you go out to find your baby , Although done in a slightly more spectacular way ends up beeing the same. By the end it tries to do what New vegas did only without any options deviations from your path or real choices and than you get a 30 sec long ending screen which recaps the story . Sorry if i spoiled the disappointment . For me a fallout games ending should be atleast 4 minutes long detailing every place you visited and how it turns out after the choices you've made .
Side Stories - there really are only a few i found untill i got bored out of my mind from all the generic randomly generated killquests untill i wandered to a actual quest . Their okay. the 2 i found were almost fallout worthy for the moral dilema they had but in the end it still had a clear bad and good choice
Now for my favorite part of fallout series the dialogues ! Since the skill system is gone and you only have 4 choices which are always positive negative a question or a stupid badly written remark labeled as sarcastic . special dialogue options are only affected by charisma , there are only a handful of speech options that actually resolve anything other than that its usually just to hussle random people giving you killquests for more caps . This kills any variations of your player character . In a fallout game your character should be able to be distinctively different each playthrough a stupid brute a smart scientist , a charismatic scoundrel and it all should have some effect on the world (None of that here)
RPG elements - I didnt enjoy the perk system much it felt like 30% of the perks were useless 30% were mostly quality of life and 40% actually fun to use , some were even gamebreaking .
S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Now unless you want some of the quality of life perks in intelligence charisma bracket . intelligence charisma and perception to some extent are all rather useless compared to the other stats
Modders are going to have a field day reworking perks and stats system just like for skyrim ...
Now for the worst part..,
The Gameplay
Bethesda is known for having really horrible AI and well from companions to enemies , they can be easly fooled , fight a deathclaw ? just sprint shoot sprint shoot and you'll kill it eventually or use a doorway thankfully in that case it would run away and hide after taking a good number of hits befor figuring out he cant go through the doorway :D
I played on survival difficulty just because of how slow the stimpack healing was , i found it a huuuge upgrade over fallout 3 , sadly survival difficulty means you will have to shoot things endlessly in the head befor they die since you'll only be doing half your damage it get progressively worse as you level up aswell as you gain more health so at high levels the fights become rather boring even more so if you use power armor .
Graphics and performance - hell in 1st 2 weeks the nexus was already flooded with graphic optimization mods , performance enhancing mods so i'll just be kind and say the game is poorly optimized
Bottom line
So the fist person shooter part sucks , the rpg part sucks ... the graphics and performance are sketchy even on decent machines ... why am i giving the game a 5 you ask ?
Because for all its endless flaws i still enjoyed roaming around collecting junk , untill like midway of the game than it just got real old real fast ...
I say give it a go but only in 3 years ... cause maybe the nexus community will rescue this NOT a fallout game (yes i am in denial)
