I love Fallout. Just by looking at my icon you can tell that I love Fallout. I picked this game up when it first came out, thinking that it was going to be a mildly watered down version of a PC game, fairly straightforward quests, and decent replay value. I was wrong- kind of. Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel takes the core concepts of Fallout, unique character interaction, branching plot, incredible atmosphere, and character customiztion, and throws it out the window in favor of boobs and enough four letter words that would make Howard Stern blush. First off, you get to select three pretty standard, generic heroes. You have the hulking human guy, who has great strength and vitality, but little else; The token hot heroine who's main attribute is speed; and a "ghoul" who is probably the most well-rounded of the three. Your first quest is probably the most generic quest in any game I've ever played. Go into a warehouse, kill a certain number of enemies (Radscorpions and Giant Rats, yay), and defeat a boss, which the game calls a "Big Mother f-er". Most of the quests in this game center around this idea, or they have you fetching one item or another, bringing it back to whomever needed it. The gameplay itself is pretty solid, the only thing that really sucks throughout is the camera. Rather than going with a somewhat far off isometric view that would have benefited this game immensely, it goes instead with a birdseye view that is situated directly above the player. Any locale that would have been considered large and daunting, is just seen as a poorly designed maze. The option of only being able to turn the camera further add to the frustration, making this, and nothing else, your biggest adversary. When it comes to armor and weapons, they pretty much just get stronger as you go along, with little to really aid you in selecting the right gear. All you have to do is choose the weapon with the highest attack, a gun with the highest attack, and the armor with the best defense, and that's it. All in all, this game is just really accessible, just don't expect anything too deep. If you're a fan of Fallout, steer clear, I took the damage for you. If you're looking for a mildly engaging adventure that you can waste time with, go ahead and pick this up, it's only $5.99 at Gamestop anyways.
